Plastic wrapping, stickers, logo's, yeah of course it's not homegrown. Or at least here in the UK it'd be very weird to label/sticker and wrap local produce, might be different in the US and Canada if they have different regulations

    "It takes time to implement."

Paper. Marker. "We resell grocery store produce at increased cost." Tape it up. Done. Took four seconds.

Farmers markets (where I am) charge an annual fee AND a fee for each day you show up to sell, some are even based on quantity. So, if these people buy mass produced, triple the price, and then pay their fees and percentages to people like that d-bag on the "board", well then they're all making money hand over fist without any real work.

Just buy from a grocery store. It's easier, cheaper, and produce has the same benefits. Plus many grocery stores do get local produce. I recognize the farms from my area making their way into the store.

I know someone who buys low quality food from dirt cheap super markers and sell them for three times the price, he says it is just organic food, which it is, 😂

People in California are ready to pay a premium price and the state of California is ready to extort someone on every side of the transaction.

If every homeowner has property, why aren't they taking the time to grow some of their own food?I had the chance to buy a home 2 years ago, and the first thing I did was put in beds for asparagus, rhubarb, black berries, strawberries, and raspberries. I had lettuce, swiss charge, squash and potatoes. Left over - growing too much was given to the local food bank.

I never shop on farmers markets- after i tried buying organic apples from one farmer on a farmers market and noticed that 1) apples had the "wax" sheen on them and 2) he forgot to take off a couple of stickers on them- by the way, stickers were NOT organic . Besides, i've asked many sellers many times if they had organic produce certificate- and only one was able to produce it. ONE. So I'd rather shop in a supermarket then pay twice or three times for the same food

What do you expect ?? You vote for liars to misgovern you and this is just one of the consequences of your actions !
It has even made it's way into larger High Street Businesses where for example you can buy a 16mp HD 1080p WIFI sports camera for less than $30 ... but, when you get it home and use it you discover its actually 0.3mp 640 x 480 interpolated with an HD 2 inch screen.

Capitalism at its finest. Lying and misleading the consumer. Unregulated and always doing the wrong thing. All in the name of profit.

a documentary like this would never air in the US, where I live. But, I've had the same experience where I doubted the produce was locally grown. One large farm here in central Va. where I live, buys from a farm deeper in the south which is warmer, and calls it theirs -- dumps it into their boxes, then sells it -- I know, because I used to live by the farm and talked to one of their employees. The only way to know for sure is grow your own !! Thank you for this.

So the board of the "Farmer's Market" is IN ON THE SCAM. They won't let the real farmers in because the scammers makes way more sales and pay more on their location.

In the US, I haven’t seen this happen. The vendors at the farmers markets have actual farms or are small businesses (ie dairy or bee keepers)

yeah I don't understand why anyone would think it was home grown if it has a sticker?? I think that's why some are confused as to why they're being asked about them being homegrown.

I live in Ottawa, and what's reassuring to me is that instead of going to a farmer's market, we have a strawberry picking farm and a sweet corn farm where they sell corn near Bells Corners. It's very obvious that they're selling locally grown food, so there's some peace of mind there.

This is the efficiency of markets. As long as produce isn't wasted and hasn't failed FDA pesticide test, who cares if it is grown "locally" ? Local growing involves the import of 3rd world miserables. It is better to import produce than import illegal aliens that are subsidized by other parts of our system, such as welfare, section 8 housing and public education.
