I don't know about North America, but in South America and Europe, these "farmer's markets" are called mercado central (central markets) and everybody knows they are re-sellers of real farms. Here is how it works: 1. the farmers harvest their vegetables/fruits, 2. put them into trucks 3. Go at 5am in the morning to the "mercado central" and sell their harvested products to re-sellers, or send their harvested product in trucks to other cities to be sold to other re-sellers or supermarkets who are willing to pay even more money for that same harvest (supply & demand play a big role). 4. People go to the central markets to get fresh produce from these re-sellers (usually sold at a better price than the supermarket, hence its popularity amongst people).
There aren't problems between the re-sellers and the farmers. In fact, if anything, the competition is either between re-sellers or between farmers. The relationship between farmer and re-seller is complementary, they need each other. It is the same type of relationship that manufacturers and retail sellers have. Most farmers only have the time to invest their money and time in their farm, rather than doing all the chain of production by themselves.

Good episode. Funny how in markets in the Caribbean it's opposite- better prices and more organic stuff.

Then we have some products as shampoo whi say they dont have soldium, so is with no salt, then you read the ingredients and they have the same quantity as a normal one. We are being lied every dam day!!! \(0∆0)/

They don't regulate and check every marketplace in the US... I've seen the labels and cookie cutter produce at the local market and no one is doing anything about it. I just 'cherry pick' the odd looking and the smallest produce I can find and usually I buy it for cheap.

There is a demographic issue as well. Our population has exploded worldwide to 10 billion. Our landmass and farm worthy land has decreased. Consequently more food has to be produced on a limited space with the greatest efficiency and profit. Therein lie the roots of GMOs, fertilizers, chemicals and the decreasing space for traditional farms and agriculture - which is the right way to go for our health.

No other industry would allow this fraudulent behaviour to continue. Canada needs to get it's act together.

There's NOoooooo way in hell, they can grow that much, scientist figured out how to overpopulate vegetables and fruits it's not real it's genetically done so all of that fruit and vegetable is most likely genetic and not real unless you can see an actual Small Town Farmer and you buy it off him or her grow your own people

I notice a lot of other comments condoning the false advertisements by these pretending farmers, saying things like corporations are taking over and no more farms left, I can give you an exceptionally long list of roadside farms I go by on a daily basis especially in the summer, Barrie, Midland, Georgina, Keswick, Orillia, just north of orangeville don't remember the exact name these are all places within 1.5 - 2 hr of the Toronto area. Its really sad that you guys would defend these acts.

I hope all those who claim that farmers markets are a better way to shop have figured out that you can save money and a bit of self respect by just going to the local supermarket.

Money, money, money... Did anyone else notice how this board guy protected his hash flow vendor or it just me ).
Farmers who would try to complain on resellers to the market board, would most likely loose their spot there.
Nice investigative work - should be aimed on the board representatives though.
Vendors should declare what produce is theirs and what is not - it’s easy to be mandatory by a board directors.

I find it hard to believe that this is allowed in a country like Canada. In NZ we have markets, and farmers markets. Farmers markets are generally in small towns or on the city fringe. Close to where the farms are. Markets are in the cities where there is a large population and its very clear that the vendors are selling second grade fruit and veges. To advertise anything else is illegal.

This is not the norm. real farners are proud to share their skills and fruits of their labour. I think the thumbs down come from people that understand the propaganda behind giving the organic and whole natural food movement a bad name. Like in anything we buy you must be an educated and informed consumer. Even better grow your own.

I bought peaches from a mobile store called from BC farms. But found out some of them had stickers with 4 digit code. I thought he just bought them from superstore or costco.
