Is anything like this available for the next generation Apple Pencil that comes with the new iPad Pro 2018? https://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F8J206/

The normal ipad is $329. They used to start at $499 so the price of a regular ipad has dropped significantly and even the base model can use the apple pencil today if you need that. The iPad Pros have become a lot more expensive.
As for replacing a laptop it just depends what you want to do. A lot of people can easily work off an ipad. You may need an external keyboard if you do a lot of typing but other than that they can easily suffice to web browse and do word processor or spreadsheet work. They can easily handle email.
I do agree that allowing iPads to access external storage would be a huge leap forward in terms of making it more flexible but there are some workarounds. I use a NAS on my wifi and can easily transfer any documents from that to the iPad and back again.
As for some of the other tests, they are stupid and a waste of time. Why would you connect a mouse when the OS has no pointer? Its a touch interface therefore you do not use a mouse. At that point the video was stopped because it had become stupidly pointless and already had a conclusion in mind. Funny how people that criticize Apple laptops for not having touch are the same people that criticize iPads for not being compatible with a mouse. LOL

Why are your comparing iPads to laptops? It's not a laptop? Might as well compare a toaster to your kettle in the kitchen.

Luma Fusion is so much better and it accepts 4K footage. LUMA FUSION.

You are not being open minded. There are some videos of people using the ipad pro for rendering videos with music in 4k. Try doing things different.

That's why I bought the Surface Go, not the smaller iPad pro. Something portable and fully featured but still light AF, compact, and allows multitasking.

iOS 12 brought nothing to the iPad Pro, if Apple wants us to replace our Macs with iPads, they gotta bring the features to iOS 13.

Aren't all manufacturers increasing prices? I paid £329 for a Nexus 5. The Pixels start at about £729.

I have a feeling the reason Apple doesn't make any of the Macs touch screen is because it will kill iPad sales. I honestly can't think of a reason to buy an iPad other than playing iOS games on a large screen. Photo editing, drawing, gaming and web browsing is the only reason to buy an iPad. Also Macbook's aren't even that large to begin with.

The problem with this discussion is that there’s no consensus on what “replacing your laptop” means.

The people that disagree will argue that the iPad, which runs iOS, doesn’t match a laptop (which runs Windows or MacOS) feature for feature and doesn’t provide the exact same software experience, or even the UI interaction that they’ve been used to for years.

The people that agree will argue that a laptop doesn’t need to be a scaled down desktop in order to function as a portable computer. It needs to be compact, light and powerful enough to offer the productivity that you need on the go, even if different software requires you do do things differently. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

No, the iPad Pro isn’t the same product as a laptop. Everything about it is designed to use differently than a traditional laptop. But as the hardware has become exponentially more powerful, and iOS has added features to boost productivity, the iPad in its current state is more than capable of replacing a laptop as a de facto mobile computing device. Yes, even for professionals (I never take a laptop to work, and use an iPad daily).

It can definitely replace a laptop for people that use a laptop for what it was originally intended: to use as a secondary computer. If your laptop is your one and only computer, the claim becomes a little less valid.

    Context, people. It matters.

Coming from a 9.7" iPad Pro, I struggled off and on about where the iPad Pro in general fits into my work and productivity routine. My conclusion is that the game winner of the iPad Pro is not the keyboard, display, or even the powerful processor... the key is the Apple Pencil. The Pencil turned the iPad Pro from a tablet to a very useful note-taking and PDF-annotating tool. But in terms of creating and managing Office documents, too often I need the full functionality of desktop Office, rather than the iOS Office apps. So for me, the 2018 regular iPad with Pencil support killed the need for me to upgrade to a new iPad Pro.

Sorry- this person is flat out wrong on almost everything he talked about. You can hardcore video edit on iPad Pro with support for external drives built into Luma Fusion. He doesn't understand or know the file system, and clearly has little to no knowledge of the iPad Pro or IOS. Video editing on an iPad Pro is about 100X better than anything else, and faster. Can't even do what you can do with iPad Pro on a Surface. HUGE power difference. HUGE. It's absolutely DEAD simple to get content and files into the iPad and I mean ANYTHING. I can name off over 100 top well known artists/creators who use this machine. This person is not educated on the depths of the system and doesn't understand where we are. It's the age old story of someone clinging to ancient workflows and software's. Much of what is said here leads people in the wrong direction and there is far too much information that is flat out totally wrong in this video.

Apple just needs to come out with something windows did with their surface pro and laptop tablet combined! This will solve any issues and it will be the ultimate portable Mac machine.. but obviously Apple won’t do this cause that will be the end for the iPad🙄

It can replace a laptop but you can’t use a lap top work flow. The stupidity of your review is to want an apple (no pun intended) to taste like an orange. Trying to connect a mouse to a device that has never had a cursor is actually stupid. Ask yourself why the Microsoft surface is not selling like hot cakes. It is after all the holy grail - a lap top and a tablet. I am an Apple user and want a tablet instead of a lap top but I’m still evaluating where my files will/can be. There is still something missing for me and the way I work but I’m at least not stupid enough to try to connect a mouse. You clearly had never used Adobe Rush before demonstrating it so I have no confidence in your integrity as a credible reviewer. Your premise was that Apple were misleading by saying the pro is a lap top replacement. You may be right for many but until you actually try to use it for a month and find ways to do what you need to do which might be different to what you are used to doing, you are not qualified to judge. Just another poorly informed and reasoned commentator.

1:06:50 I use my 11-inch for coding as a thin client and it works very well with Blink Shell to SSH into a Linux VM through mosh (alleviates lags and reconnections). Remote env is tmux + Vim which simply is a bliss to work in, well worth the learning curve (all terminal-based = same env from anywhere including an iPad). Blink's local shell is very limited though, so coding offline within the iPad is not possible. There's just enough to connect to the remote and transfer files, no text editor either (use iVim). Local dev may be possible soon with iSH, see https://github.com/tbodt/ish

I don‘t recall anybody at Apple saying that the iPad Pro is working exactly like a notebook, they say it replaces them. And from my point of view that‘s totally true! Sometimes it helps to take a step back and think about if the way you‘ve been working until now could be changed to a new way. Just try to think different than before. Things don‘t work exactly like on a notebook and they are not supposed to. Who needs a mouse on an iPad??? There’s the Pencil and there are your fingers... Why should I plug a harddrive into it? You want to give me files? Here‘s a link to my Google Drive, upload them. I will download what‘s neccessary onto my iPad. And so on, you get the point...

It's a laptop replacement for me because everything I do is web based. I no longer depend on the actual OS of any machine that I use. So if that's the case then the iPad Pro is more convenient with the additional flexibility of being able to use it as an ebook reader, magazine reader. Surfing the web and watching movies is also more convenient. Add the additional portability and if you use it in the same way that I do then this is definately a laptop replacement.

Pro tip, just buy this a year later after the release of 2019 ipad pro. For it's price, it's not worth it. You're better of with your macbooks,
