A Doctor's Error Almost Killed Me

  • Type 1 diabetes affects millions of people all over the world; most being children. Type 1 diabetes is when our blood sugar levels are too high from low levels of insulin. In short, insulin helps the cells in your body absorb the glucose (sugar). Without it, your blood will be overrun with high blood sugar levels leading to heart, eyes, kidneys, nerve, and gum damage because your blood is too acidic. This is known as Diabetic Ketoacidosis or DKA and if left untreated, it could be life-threatening. Your body begins destroying itself from the inside out. This is what happened to this person due to a misdiagnosis at the hospital. At 10 years old, you don't really think much about your body. In fact, we all think our bodies are invincible at that age jumping off the playground, scraping our knees and brushing it off as if it was a small paper cut. But for her, she knew instantly that she was not well. Dehydration, thirst, frequent urination (peeing), and headaches are just some of the symptoms she felt all at once. When visiting the hospital, the doctors took her symptoms as a virus and told her to rest at home. But the reality was, her blood was growing more acidic by the minute because her body was no longer producing insulin. As she got worse her quick thinking mother grabbed a glucose meter and knew instantly her daughter was in danger of dying within hours. Rushing to the hospital doctors hooked her up on machines and rushing to control her acidic blood levels. Luckily, they were able to control it and she survived, but not with a catch. For the rest of her life, life all type 1 diabetics, she would have to monitor and inject herself every few hours a day. On top of this weight fluctuations, headaches, and tiredness will be with her for the rest of life and at random times. For most Type 1 diabetics, your life revolves around the needle and glucose meter, but it doesn't have to. You don't have to hide behind the needle and screen anymore. You can proudly say you have this disease and that's fine because you will rise above it. Don't let a disease (or any) take advantage of who you are, what you're capable of, and what you want to accomplish in life. You may have to walk an extra 10 steps than the person next to you, but those extra steps will only make you stronger and make you appreciate every step more. Don't think of it as the end to your life but the beginning of a new challenge that you will overcome. Thank you for supporting our channel and all of your support. Same thing, My story started when I felt always dehydrated and drinking non-stop water and peeing every 10 minutes, One day, I vomited non-stop, Try to get out the vomit out, But there was nothing, So we went to a really bad small clinic and they said that I had high sugar and didn't do anything, As if I was their step-son, So the next day I went to school, I felt like I'm dieing, I couldn't even lift my head, So when I got home, I took a lot of medicines, Nothing changed, So we went into a really nice hospital, A lot of technology, So they checked my blood and when they saw the results, They freaked out, I thought I was dieing, Then they brought machines and inserted a lot of wires to my body, Trying to decrease the sugar, And they found out that the pancreas couldn't produce insulin for my body, The insulin helps organises the blood sugar, Preventing it to become critical high, Most of the sugar reading were "High" and "Critical High", I was freaked out that I thought that this is the last day, I asked the doctor " Am I going to die?" He replied, "No, They're trying to decrease the blood sugar, and you can be anything to become in the future, And I didn't belive him, So after like an hour, They transported to a First Class hospital, That the medical bill reached QR. 21,000, I lived in Qatar these days, So they added more and more wires, I get poked every hour to get blood from my body, Then at 11 PM, The doctors transported me to my room I will sleep, eat until I'm discharged, So they got a wheel chair for me, It was so exciting, I was at the emergency room by the way, So I was in the room for like 6 days, The room was First Class, I was absent for school like 8 days, My friends thought I was seriously harmed, Then I was at home two days, I wanted to go to my friend, I'm 12 years, Fun fact, My birthday is at 05/11/2006, I entered the hospital 06/11/2018, So sad that I didn't celebrate my birthday, So they added potasium, Sorry if I typed it wrong, It hurts, So when I got discharged I said, "I wanna go back to the hospital", I ate turkey bacon, which was my favorite though, and the date is now 11/18/2018, I was in the hospital from two weeks, So if you got diabetes, DONT freak out, It's normal, You can do whatever you want BUT don't eat without taking the insulin shot. Facts about me, I'm Ahmed, I'm 12 right now, I'm a Muslim, Egyptian, Live in Qatar, I respect all countries, And I love playing ROBLOX, My account is AhmedTheGamer_YT, Thank you for reading this, Goodbye, Always remember, If you drinks lots of water and still thirsty and pee a lot, Go to the doctor and ask for a blood test, Thank you so much for your attention! :D

Please note that diabetes has alomost the same symptoms as a cold or virus. The doctor should have checked your blood sugar if you were extremely thirsty, but for an otherwise healthy person a virus is the most common awnser. The title “a doctors error alomost killed me” is a little drastic, if your going to blame the doctor just remember that it is a common error and you should just be happy she is ok.

My cat named Oliver also died from kidney failure, the day after my Birthday! Which is today the 17! I really miss him and I wish I can see him in any way to know that he is there for me. He was the sweetest cat you would ever meet. I know though that his twin, Oscar, can see him bc he looks at the ceiling, meows, and looks up there as if there is something running around up there. I’ll never forget him and I’m really scared for tomorrow and I have already cried today.
